Parking bans and snow emergencies are being announced for a winter storm that's expected to bring as much as 8 inches of snow to most of Massachusetts late Saturday into early Sunday.

The weekend storm brought a mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain to western Massachusetts, with some areas seeing up to six inches of snow by Sunday afternoon.

The final month of meteorological winter looks to be fairly active with several chances of snow and ice from the Ohio Valley to the Northeast. On the southern end of the frontal boundaries, heavy rainfall and thunderstorms will be likely across the Gulf Coast.

The snow will arrive Saturday between 10 p.m. and midnight. Once it arrives, it will hit the ground running. The majority of the snow accumulation will occur between midnight and 7 a.m. on Sunday. There will be some light snow and flurries between 7 a.m. and noon but very little additional accumulation.

Another snowstorm is expected to hit western Massachusetts overnight on Saturday, and it's best to prepare in advance.

A “notably stronger” system arrives Thursday, bringing a chance for mixed precipitation rather than snow due to warmer air moving in over New England. Temperatures on Thursday could reach the 40s across southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island, with temperatures in the high 30s in the interior.
