NEW YORK -- Staten Island Chuck, a groundhog at the Staten Island Zoo, did not see his shadow and predicted an early spring Sunday. Chuck's forecast contradicts Punxsutawney Phil, who predicted six more weeks of winter after seeing his shadow about an hour earlier at Gobbler's Knob in Pennsylvania.

Staten Island Chuck (a.k.a Charles G. Hogg) is the borough’s resident groundhog. He lives at the Staten Island Zoo in West Brighton. And he has an excellent record when it comes to predicting whether we’ll experience an early spring or six more weeks of dark, blustery winter.

Punxsutawney Phil isn't the only weather-predicting groundhog that enjoys a day of public spotlight. In Ohio, Buckeye Chuck has made his call.
