A 56-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed by a car on Route 37 in Toms River on Tuesday night, officials said. Jason Matthews was hit in the right lane by a westbound vehicle as he tried to cross the highway in the area of River Avenue at about 9 p.m., Toms River police said.
