2009年7月21日 · The shower was draining slowly and I decided to pour some caustic soda in the plug hole, followed by what turned out to be warm water. Not boiling, but not cold, and not diluted with the crystals either. Result - the caustic soda crystals solidified in the plug hole, the water I poured won't drain and a plunger won't shift the solid barrier!

2010年3月28日 · Caustic soda is a strong base, whereas vinegar is a weak acid so while a reaction will occur if you add one to the other it won't be very extreme. I would use the CS then wait til it does it's thing then rinse out with water and only then use the vinegar.

2014年3月7日 · to second this - Caustic Soda gives off a terrific amount of heat when it gets moist - used to be a lab. technician in a previous life hence my knowledge! FWIWI use bleach block (parazone) in the loo cistern and they cut down beautifully on the mould/mildew!

2012年1月14日 · Caustic Soda is far too dangerous and expensive. Much better to use ordinary table salt for long term weed control or cheap vinegar mixed with a drop of washing up liquid to kill annual weeds. My Mind wanders, if found please return.

2009年1月26日 · Caustic soda is powerful stuff, it can cause chemical burns, it should be treated with care - mixed according to the instructions wearing gloves and goggles. I would only use it for outside drains. 0

2007年1月9日 · You "may" be able to save your cupboard, try searching for a liquid polish or a "ringaway" type of thing, if this doesn't work then maybe a wax but the caustic soda will have burnt your wood so don't expect miracles. In the future get your hubby to try "soda crystals" instead, they don't burn but are brilliant at clearing drains and are dirt cheap.

2009年3月16日 · If all else fails, caustic soda is good and pretty cheap ( especially if you can buy plain caustic soda from a chemist rather than some overpriced branded stuff ). But PLEASE BE CAREFUL - it really is very potent stuff, will hurt like hell if you splash it on your skin, and it doesn't bear thinking about getting it into your eyes.

2009年10月10日 · But they are def not the same, soda crystals mildly irritant, caustic soda will cause severe chemical burns-be careful! ( a while ago, I know of a pet owner who had heard (on the internet:mad:)to use washing soda/soda crystals to make their dog vomit after eating something shouldn't, client used caustic soda instead, dog did not make it :(:()
