Minas-Rio is an iron ore mining project in Minas Gerais state, Brazil. [1] It is one of the world's largest mining projects, and is initially expected to export 26.5 million tonnes of iron ore in 2013, through a 525 km slurry pipeline to a port at Açu; [2] production potential is 53 Mtpa or higher. [3]

Minas-Rio – in Minas Gerais state in Brazil – is a fully integrated export iron ore operation, with the mine, beneficiation plant, 529km slurry pipeline and dedicated export facility at the port of Açu. We own 100% of Minas-Rio, with exception of the port facility, in which we own 50%.

The 24/26-inch diameter pipeline system is designed to transport 26.5 mt/y of iron ore from the Conceição do Mato Dentro mine site in Minas Gerais (elevation of 770 metres), through 33 municipal districts, to terminal facilities at Barra do Açu in Rio de Janeiro, on the coast of Brazil.
