Ernest Jeffrey Moniz, GCIH [1] (Portuguese: [muˈniʃ]; [2] born December 22, 1944) is an American nuclear physicist and former government official. From May 2013 to January 2017, he served as the 13th United States secretary of energy in the Obama administration.
