I believe Nema 14-30 is standard for dryers and stove. 14-50 is standard for RVs. I did a 14-50 installation on my own and I probably could have just done a 6-50 instead and would have saved money on wiring (since I didn’t need that 3rd white wire) and easier to wire into the box.

When I plug in the $520 Tesla corded mobile connector (14-50 head), the light on cord turn red, and the car does not charge. My electrician has checked the voltage at the 14-50 outlet, and it's power numbers are correct.

Had to buy a tandem breaker ($15) to free up one slot on my panel, a 50A breaker ($19--different hardware store much cheaper btw, do your due diligence), and did all of the install myself (using Tesla wall connector - $400) for a grand total of ~$150.

I can't read the fine print on the plug in the pic, whether it is UL approved for the USA. The "Contact us" has a USA address so the implication is that it's legal approved. YMMV.
